Who Was Elvis Presley?

Born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Presley rose to prominence as an American singer and actor and became known as the “King of Rock and Roll” in the mid-1950s.

Elvis Presley's first single, “That’s All Right,” released in 1956, marked the beginning of his revolutionary career in the blues, country, and gospel genres.


As he continued to grow his presence on stage, he became easier to recognize due to his unique voice and charismatic persona, which helped popularize rock and roll music across the United States and eventually all over the world.

Beyond music, Elvis starred in 30 films and became a symbol of youthful rebellion and cultural change during the 1950s and 1960s. On August 16, 1977, he died peacefully at his Graceland Estate in Memphis, Tennessee.
