Who was Prophet Adam?

In Islam, Prophet Adam is regarded as the first human and prophet. He is known as one of the key foundational figures for humanity. According to the religion, Allah created Adam to become the father of all people, while spreading unity and ancestry throughout the human race.

Throughout Islam, Prophet Adam, created around 4004 BC, holds great significance as the first human entrusted with free will, God's vicegerent on Earth, and known as the Father of Mankind (https://myislam.org/prophet-adam/). He called upon the people to worship Allah, establishing a monotheistic principle in Islam. Adam was the first to carry the message to Muslims that followers worship one God from the very beginning of human life on Earth. After his death at 930 years old, angels washed, shrouded, and buried his body to teach his 40 children, 20 sets of twins, the proper burial customs. One year after he died, Eve was buried next to him (https://hadithoftheday.com/adam-part2/).

Being the first prophet, Adam achieved many successes. For example, he was the first to receive revelation from Allah, leading to teaching his followers about faith, morality, and worship. Being the first human, he is characterized as the founder of human civilization due to his teachings of basic life skills. That being said, God taught Adam the names and knowledge of all things, establishing human intellect and capability (https://islamic-relief.org/qurbani/prophet-adam-as-and-the-first-sacrifice/).

Furthermore, he exemplified the monotheistic belief, and those who came after him carried on that responsibility. Within his life, Adam became the forefront of Islam, starting a legacy that would impact billions of people.

Why it matters

Prophet Adam is labeled as the originator who made Islam a monotheistic religion. This belief started a link of monotheism across religions, which came after Islam’s creation.
